Biography
Raised in western North Dakota where he was surrounded by rolling hills, stark bluffs, and a gleaming lake, Pennington has a great appreciation for the natural world. At an early age, he commandeered his mother's camera to take with on hikes. These early forays piqued his interest in the medium and have served as the beginning of his photographic education. His subsequent art education at Jamestown College has since focused his vision and personal style.
Being fascinated by nature, Pennington's subjects are often uncommon views of everyday objects or scenes, frequently emphasizing interesting details and textures. Other times, especially in his travels, he tries to embody his impression of a particular place.
He finds that good photos are not merely a moment captured in time but the representative synthesis, whether conscious or not, of the artist's impression of a subject, the emotions he feels upon viewing the subject, and, perhaps, a piece of the the artist himself. Good photos are more than a sum of their parts; they are able to affect the viewer in such a way as to convey a deeper meaning.
Pennington's art has been displayed in Jamestown College Reiland Fine Arts Center for his Senior exhibition as well as other art shows put on by Jamestown College students. The show was well-recieved, and his art has been commissioned for the brand-new Nafus student center.
